A boxer puppy will grow up to be a medium sized dog, with a proportionate body. It is easy to care for a boxer, as it is a fairly active animal. All it needs is a brisk daily walk, and on occasions, a long walk will benefit both the owner and the pet. Grooming wise, it’s an easy task because this breed has short hair. Use a hard bristle brush to comb the hair on a regular basis to remove loose hair.

A boxer is a quick and intelligent animal. It is very loyal, and can get along with almost anyone. A young puppy can be easily integrated into the family due to its natural sociable nature. It can even get along quite well with a cat. But don’t tempt the dog with smaller animals like ducks or guinea pigs. A well trained dog can be told to leave these little animals alone. But you don’t want to risk having your dog misbehaving by presenting the opportunities!

In fact, the boxer is good with human beings that you can trust them to be with young children. Trainers love to work with them as they are easy to get along. Some boxers are so sensitive and intelligent that they are trained to carry out police work such as search and rescue.

When buying a boxer puppy, most people refer to the official breed standards, set by the AFC (American Kennel Club). But bear in mind that these are just guidelines to help you choose a healthy pup. They are not concrete laws that you have to follow. If you treat them as concrete laws, you may end up making the wrong decision. Here’s why.

The AFC standard states that a dog belongs to the boxer breed only if two thirds of its body color is not white. For this reason, many dog breeders find that they cannot register white boxers with the AFC. And this affects sales. Potential customers want to buy pups that are properly registered. They want the assurance from an authority that they are indeed paying for the right breed.

Unfortunately, many new pet owners, being inexperience, base their decisions solely on registrations. This results in many perfectly healthy white boxers being euthanize.

A white boxer gets its fur color due to genes inheritance. It is not an unhealthy animal, and it certainly is not an Albino. An Albino means a lack of pigment. You tell if a dog is an Albino just by looking at the color of the eyes. The white boxer is just like any other healthy boxer, except that most of its fur is white in color. It will still bear a small percentage of colored markings on various parts of its body such as the face.

However, the white boxer has a higher chance of becoming deaf after 6 to 8 weeks. This is caused by a lack of pigment cells in the inner ear. Without adequate sensory hairs, the hearing is affected. It is this lack of pigment cells that cause the coat of fur to be white as well.
